DGE Rick Bassett, a logn time member of the NHRC, did an outstanding job presenting at Pre-PETS.

What setting could be better suited than a university campus for some basic training for the incoming presidents of Rotary clubs in District 7980? Since Dr. Richard Bassett, a SCSU professor, is the District Governor Elect responsible for the President Elect Training Seminar in March, he chose two school campus sites for the traditional January introduction to the training, and reduced what had been traditionally the loss of a full day on yet another Saturday, to a weeknight evening of ‘Leadership 101’.

The North Haven volunteers who registered participants at Fairfield University on Wednesday evening January 23rd were Bernadette and Guy Casella, while the next evening Jianny Keegan and Dave Marchesseault chose the bone chilling experience of traveling to Connecticut College in New London.

The session flowed effortlessly as presenters ranging from DG Brian Amey and Rick’s successor Mukund Nori to Past DG’s Julie Reppenhagen and Rick Benson assisted the professor in presenting the many challenges that lay ahead. The new Assistant Governors were introduced, along with an overview of their responsibilities, and even a primer on the use of the District 7980 website was offered by AG Chris Johnson from Fairfield. In his closing remarks, after a truly inspirational wrap up, Rick cautioned his listeners that despite the amount of work involved, if it isn’t fun than you’re doing it wrong.
