This program helps keep kids safe on high school graduation night.

Nancy Leddy of the North Haven Community Services Department explained to the local Rotary club recently that the town has partnered with local businesses and volunteers for 27 years to sponsor an alcohol/drug free party which is held after the high school graduation and is known as Project Graduation. Unfortunately, national statistics indicate that the night of graduation is a high-risk night for youth because of substance abuse that commonly takes place at teenagers’ parties. The point behind Project Graduation is to eliminate that risk, and to offer a safe and memorable evening for the entire senior class. In regard to the 2013 celebration Leddy said, “A student committee helped to plan the event which consisted of entertainment, food, arcade fun, and amusement rides. It is with the generosity of families, businesses and organizations that we are able to host Project Graduation, and in fact, the planning process for the class of 2014 has already begun!” To provide the fun filled atmosphere, the students are bused to Quassy Amusement Park in Middlebury, CT. Food and beverages are plentiful with meals offered upon arrival, as well as late evening, followed by breakfast back at the school.
