Officers for 2014-14 Installed by District Gov. Rick Bassett

As she turned the gavel over to the new president at the installation of officers at the Country House Restaurant in mid- June, Debbie Volain, the 2013-14 President of the North Haven Rotary Club declared, “I’d like to thank the entire membership for their help in making my year a great success.  I had wonderful mentors in the club who guided me through various challenges throughout the year which made it an enjoyable adventure.”

This was the 62nd installation celebration since the club received its charter in 1942. Dr. Richard Bassett, a member of the local club who served as the District Governor for the past year, said it was both an honor and a privilege to install the following officers: President: Nicholas D’Ambrosia; President Elect:  David Marchesseault; Vice President: Mark Minotti; Secretary: Brendan McCaffery; Treasurer: Donna Mae Cangiano; and Sergeant-at-Arms: John Costanzo.

Early in the ceremonies, President Elect D’Ambrosia presented a Paul Harris Award to a long time friend from Glastonbury, Phil Lennox, whom he had met 40 years ago at the Hartford Civic Center. He added that, “Since that time, we have become close friends. At 87, Phil has always been my mentor and has taught me many lessons; but above all to treat everyone, whether customers or family, with love, kindness, and above all, respect.”

D’Ambrosia said that the awardee had helped countless people, as well as several specific charities throughout his life, including Newington Children's Hospital and the 9-11 Fund. The award itself represents a $1,000 contribution in the name of the recipient to the Rotary Foundation, known for its major charitable work around the world (e.g. polio eradication in concert with the Gates Foundation).

At the opening meeting of his 12 month presidency on July 1st, Nick D’Ambrosia addressed the membership saying, “May I follow in the tradition of the many great people who have served our Rotary club; and may we all work together to help the community throughout the year. If we all try to touch someone who needs help, truly, in our own special way, we can change the world.”

The annual awards and special recognition that were presented by Debbie Volain were as follows: Youth Exchange Hosts:  James & Claudia Giulietti and John & Theresa Viele; Dedicated Service: Rick D’Norscia; Rookie of the Year:  Deana Morin; Sergeant-At-Arms:  John Costanzo; Service Above Self:  George Guertin; Over The Top: Donna Mae Cangiano; Dedication & Loyalty: David Marchesseault; Paul Harris Awards: Susan Pace, Lauren D’Norscia, and Phil Lenox; Life Time Achievement:  Angie Verdini (51 years in NHRC); Rotarian of the Year:  David Marchesseault; and Honorary Member: Ellie Mulligan.
