President-Elect David Marchesseault is chairing this year's committee for 'A Day of Wine & Roses'.
With last year’s ambitious goal of raising $20,000 far surpassed by reaching just over $30,000, all of  which has all been donated to charity, this year’s Day of Wine & Roses chairman, David Marchesseault, told his colleagues in the North Haven Rotary Club that he had giant shoes to fill.  Nick D’Ambrosia, last year’s chairman of the event which is held on the grounds of Forget-Me-Not Florist and All Star Automotive on State Street, had set a goal of doubling the previous profit margin, but tripled it instead.
Thirteen years have passed since Past President Luigi Nuzzolillo first held the popular event at his business, the Forget-Me-Not Florist at 39 State Street. Hosting a small group of people from the area, it started with a simple wine tasting accompanied by a display of lovely flower arrangements. That gathering grew into an exciting contest among local wine makers hoping for a trophy in one of several categories. To this day the profits have gone directly to charity.
This year there are over 80 contestants offering their wine under the large tents provided by Arnie Jandreau of Quality Tents, LLC, co-owner of the Breakfast Nook Restaurant which hosts the club’s weekly meetings on Tuesday mornings. The generous host even provides most of the tables and chairs for over 450 guests.
In an exciting atmosphere bustling with activity, ticket holders can feast on food provided at no cost by numerous fine restaurants, area markets, and several food trucks while sipping on their favorite beverage. After tasting and voting for their favorite wines, they can review the raffle and silent auction tables and check out a few high end vendors, while being entertained by a variety of instrumental music, as well as vocal talent featuring soloists Raymond Suntino and Rich DePalma. The admission for this popular community activity to be held on Sunday, September 28th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm is $35. For tickets call Mary Jane (203-288-4585) or Luigi (203-239-1900), or go to in order to place an ad, sponsor the event, etc.
